Oct 28, 2011 · Flint is very rare, i have to go digging in old tree holes and quarries to even find one tiny piece. But if you find a good piece of quarts or any other rock with a decent angle on the sides then it can be used to throw sparks from steel.

Jun 7, 2012 · Tough to work with though. I've found that the harder rocks produce better sparks and their edge lasts longer. Much more difficult to work with though, especially when trying to produce optimal edge geometry. I believe flint is so popular because it scores very high in both workability and hardness. Best of both worlds.

"I'm In" for @SSGN-Doc as I've GAW lots of sparky stones to members & thought someone who hasn't received a GAW from me. (typing out loud) I may even do a wee GAW myself. Regards David

This was my 4th quota hunt there and I have taken a nice 9 point and a 230 lb. 10 point and always see deer there. However the place has really changed due to lots of timber harvested. Aug 2, 2011 · Texas and the rest of the south west supposedly has alot of flint, also Missouri and places around there according to YouTube arrowhead hunting videos, here in MI i cant find flint, but there is alot of chert which is basically like flint and sparks too. hoped this helped, but if not you can buy flint else where like eBay or you can search Google for flint.

May 12, 2021 · AH- the Flint River Outdoor Center owns a put-in at a place called “Goat Mountain”. A little over 5 miles above the Bluff. Maybe 6. That would be 5.5 miles from the Bluff to their shop at the 36 bridge.
