The Kurdish insurgent group PKK in Turkey says it will lay down its arms and disband after a decades-long fight that killed tens of thousands.

After more than a four-decade insurgency carried out by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) against Turkey, the US-designated terror group, says it has abandoned its armed struggle against Ankara.

Monday's decision promises to put an end to one of the longest insurgencies in the Middle East and could have significant impact in Turkey, Syria and Iraq.
