New York is now charging a $9 toll during daytime hours for passenger vehicles driving in Manhattan south of 60th Street as part of the United States’ first-ever congestion pricing plan.

Monday marked the first weekday that thousands of drivers in New York paid congestion price fees when entering parts of Manhattan. Passenger vehicles will now pay as much as $9 to drive past 60th Street during peak hours.

New York City’s first-in-the-nation congestion pricing plan kicked off without a hitch a day ago, and now drivers are facing their first weekday rush hours at extra cost. As of Sunday, many drivers must pay $9 to access the busiest part of the Big Apple during peak hours.
