Authorities have identified the skier whose body was recovered in an avalanche this week while skiing in the backcountry.

A South Lake Tahoe skier was found dead in an avalanche field near Luther Pass, officials said Tuesday. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said its dispatch center received a call late Monday afternoon regarding a missing backcountry skier near Powderhouse Peak.

The SAC, in a social media post on Wednesday, said that the slide that killed Dross was a persistent slab avalanche that released at roughly 8,800 feet on a north-to-northeast aspect. The avalanche danger in the Lake Tahoe area is forecasted as “moderate” today,
