Sean Payton isn't wasting time when it comes to tweaking his coaching staff. On Friday morning, the Denver Broncos parted ways with one of their coordinators. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport,

Former Saints head coach Sean Payton took to social media Wednesday to challenge legendary former Alabama head coach Nick Saban on his recollection of how Drew Brees ended up in New Orleans in 2006. Nineteen years ago, Saban was entering his second campaign as the head coach of the Dolphins following a 9-7 season.

Drew Brees left the Los Angeles Chargers as a free agent in 2006, joined the New Orleans Saints, and embarked on an incredible 15-year stint with the franchise.

This was the season the Vikings brought in Brett Favre and made a run to the NFC Championship game. The combination of Favre and all-world running back Adrian Peterson, a stalwart offensive line and a better-than-you-remember defense put the NFL on notice that year.

Payton is not the only Bronco selected as a finalist for an end-of-the-season award. Quarterback Bo Nix is a finalist for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year while cornerback Pat Surtain II has been nominated for AP Defensive Player of the Year.

In his second season in Denver, Payton led the Broncos to their first 10-win season and first playoff appearance since 2015.
