UK’s new ETA travel permit scheme begins today for non-Europeans – here’s what you need to know
Non-Europeans visiting or transiting through the UK without a visa will be required to obtain a £10 digital permit from today (8 January). The Home Office is extending the electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system, which was first introduced in November 2023.

Millions of US citizens and other non-Europeans visiting or transiting through the UK without a visa will need a £10 digital permit from Wednesday. The Home Office is extending the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, which was first introduced in November 2023.

The UK's Home Office advises the quickest way to apply for an ETA is via the UK ETA app, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Applicants will also be required to pay their £10 fee at that point. Travellers without a phone can follow the link here.
