President Trump is amping up trade threats, again unveiling a new batch of letters to country leaders outlining tariffs on goods imported from their countries beginning in August and a warning to BRICS nations.
“Other countries routinely use tariffs to advance their foreign policy and national security interests, and President Trump is committed to using every tool at his disposal—including access to the American economy, the world’s biggest and best consumer market—to put Americans and America First,” said White House spokesman Kush Desai.
Trump insiders maintain that it would make little sense — politically or from a policy standpoint — for the president to offer any further extensions on trade.
